The Location

Located in the prestigious suburb of Main Beach and with unrivalled positioning, The Waratah is just a short walk to local cafes, upmarket boutiques and the Gold Coast’s iconic beaches.

Tedder Ave, Main Beach

Main Beach focuses around the exclusive, luxury car-lined Tedder Avenue which is packed with upmarket eateries and boutiques.

As the hub of Main Beach, Tedder Avenue is nestled between the pristine Gold Coast beaches and the family friendly Broadwater. Exuding a contemporary village feel, socialites and surfies alike take advantage of all Tedder has to offer.

Whether it’s a beauty treatment or massage, listening to live music, picking up a few groceries or grabbing a sausage roll from the local bakery – these can all be found in easy walking distance from The Waratah.

Restaurants, Cafes & Bars

Upmarket dining options include Glass Dining & Lounge Bar, and Omeros Bros (both at Marina Mirage), Vanitas located within the Palazzo Versace Hotel and the famous Shuck – a short stroll from the Waratah. Choose from plenty of laid-back cafes – grab a sidewalk table at Lark Café and Hot Shott or head up to Marina Mirage where there are several great eateries.

Locals make everyone feel welcome at The Southport Surf Club. The club was the first to make its mark on the Gold Coast in 1924 and the expansive balcony looks directly onto the beach and out over the ocean.

The Southport Yacht Club is home to the only open-air waterfront north-facing restaurant and bar overlooking its stunning 300-berth marina.

The Seaway Kiosk and Jetty offers a huge takeaway menu to enjoy at The Spit and Peter’s Fish Market, standing between Versace and Sea World, is the go to place for the best fish and chips.

Parks, Bikes & Walking Tracks

The city’s 36 kilometre Gold Coast Oceanway starts in Main Beach and is perfect for walking and cycling.

The newly completed Spit walking track takes you from your front door to the end of The Spit with a 5-kilometre walk or run. On your way back, stop at the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Cooperative and buy some fresh prawns straight from the trawlers.

Stretching from Philip Park near Sea World to the Seaway on The Spit, The Federation Walk Coastal Reserve includes 70 hectares of vegetation and nearly three kilometres of shoreline. In addition, the dog friendly beach is a dog lover’s haven!

Macintosh Island, a short 2-minute drive or 10-minute walk is an oasis in the middle of Main Beach. A well-established park where families have been making memories for generations. The large park, with cascading streams, picturesque bridges and large trees offers a tranquil setting for family excursions and is home to several bird species including the majestic peacock.

Shopping And Entertainment

Main Beach is surrounded by shopping and entertainment options. The recently renovated Australia Fair is a short 5-minute drive away or head south to Pacific Fair – hosting luxury brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Bulgari and more.

Southport Central offers easy access with all the large supermarkets in one location. Still in Southport, head to The Brickworks for luxury homewares and furniture stores, cafes and fashion boutiques.

The Gold Coast thrives with farmer and artisan markets, the closest happening at Marina Mirage on Saturday mornings. Surfers Beachfront Markets are an institution where evening strollers can browse over 120 stalls.

For entertainment, treat the grandkids to a fun packed day at Australia’s number one marine park, SeaWorld or take them out on the water on the Aquaduck or an adrenaline filled jet boat ride. As Australia’s playground, the Gold Coast truly has something for everyone.

The Broadwater

The Broadwater is Gold Coast’s aquatic playground used for a range of recreational activities including fishing, boating and water sports. Take your boat, jet ski or charter to see what the Gold Coast waterways have to offer.

A visit to Wave Break Island is a must, then adventure out of the Seaway to watch whales and dolphins. Journey north to Tipplers on South Stradbroke Island or stay the night at Couran Cove Island Resort.

Cruise south to the Isle of Capri admiring million dollar properties along the way. Dock at Capri on Via Roma and enjoy a combination of modern restaurants, delicatessens and espresso bars.

If being on land is preferred, The Broadwater Parklands offer diverse spaces for picnics, three playgrounds for kids of all ages, fun-filled rock pools and aquatic centre – a perfect way to cool down on a summer’s day.

Gold Coast Beaches

Undisputed as some of the best beaches in the world, the Gold Coast boasts over 57 kilometres of breathtaking coastline. This leaves plenty of space to roll out a beach towel, watch champion surfers, and create lifelong memories.

Main Beach itself is home to converted historic bathing pavilions and the Southport Surf Lifesaving Club. The surf can be viewed from the comfort of the car park, making it easy to grab a surfboard, bathers, or fishing rod to suit the conditions.

What’s better for the soul than a walk along the beach with the sandy toes and sun-kissed cheeks.

Some of the top beaches on the Gold Coast include:

  • Burleigh Heads
  • Coolangatta Beach
  • Kirra Beach
